Shankar Prasad Sharma, Ph.D. : His Excellency Dr. Sharma is the current Ambassador of Nepal to the United States. Prior to assuming this responsibility, Dr. Sharma held key positions in Nepal’s policy making bodies. He was Vice Chairman in National Planning Commission (1999-2006), Member, National Planning Commission, Chief Advisor in Ministry of Finance (1997-1999), Professor of Economics at Tribnuvan University, Senior Economist in Institute of South East Asian Studies, Singapore (1986-1993), and a Fellow at the East West Center, Hawaii.
Dr. Sharma has worked as a senior consultant with the World Bank, UNDP and other international organizations. Dr. Sharma was editor of the ASEAN Economic Bulletin and a consultant editor to Hydrocarbon Asia, both published in Singapore for about seven years. He has published eight books (edited or authored) and more than fifty articles on the economy, energy and the environment of the Asia-Pacific region, including Nepal. He has been decorated by many high level awards in Nepal. And, interviews taken with him have appeared in prestigious publications like Asia Week, International Herald Tribune, Straits Times, Business Times (Singapore and Malaysia), New Straits Times, Bangkok Post, Forbes, Japan Times, Los Angeles Times, and almost all newspapers and magazines published from Nepal.
