NRNA and Ministry of Education in Nepal organizing Open University of Nepal Program in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, October 3, 2010: During NRN-Day program, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and Ministry of Education (MoE) in Nepal are organizing a day-long program in Kathmandu on Open University of Nepal (OUN) Initiative. The program will be held from 10:00AM to 4:00PM on October 7, 2010 at Annapurna Hotel.

Dr. Frits Pannekoek, the President of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) and the President of Athabasca University, a foremost Canadian University solely dedicated to distance education, will be the keynote speaker of the program.

The program will be addressed by many other key individuals involved in the program. Among them are Minister of Education Sarvendra Nath Shukla,  Secretary of MoE Mr. Deependra Bikram Thapa, Joint Secretary of Planning Mr. Janardan Nepal, Joint Secretary of Higher Education Mr. Mahashram Sharma, President of NRNA Mr. Dev Man Hirachan, Coordinator of the NRNA Initative on OUN and Executive Director of Canada Foundation for Nepal (CFFN) Dr. Pramod Dhakal, Chair of NRNA Task Force on SKI Dr. Raju Adhikari. Executive Director of NRNA Secretariat Mr. Homraj Acharya will be moderating the session and Dr. Pramod Dhakal is coordinating the organization of the program.

Other distinguished guests include Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Dr. Madhav Prasad Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology Dr. Surendra Raj Kaphle, and Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, social entrepreneur Dr. Mahabir Pun, and Dean of Education at Tribhuvan University Dr. Bidya Nath Koirala.

Ministry of Education is hosting the lunch and many other prominent Nepalese scholars and dministrators are invited in the program. The interaction program will be followed by signing of any agreements reached between participating institutions and then by a follow-up discussion where it is expected that some joint working committee between the Government of Nepal, NRNA and CFFN will be formulated.
