Open University of Nepal Event in NRN Day Program

A day-long program of Open University of Nepal (OUN) initiative is planned in Kathmandu on Thursday, 7th October as an important part of the NRN Day programs being organized by Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) will officially kickoff from this event. The OUN program aims to achieve meaningful interactions with high government officials, to policy makers, leaders of major political parties, prominent educators, journalists and people of Nepal for establishing an open and distance institution for higher education as a means to remove barriers of universal access to higher education, targeting especially rural, remote and marginalized populations in Nepal.

Dr. Frits Pannekoek, the President of Athabasca University, Canada’s Open University, who is also the President of International Council of Open and Distance Education is visiting Nepal to take part in the OUN interaction program, where he will address the gathering as the keynote speaker.

Education Minister of Nepal Honorable Survendra Nath Sukla will be chief guest of honor in the OUN program. Other distinguished personalities who are invited to attend the program are NRNA President Mr. Devman Hirachan, Mr. Janardan Nepal, a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Education, who is charged with the Open University of Nepal file, Dr. Raju Adhikari, who is the NRNA’s Skills, Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (SKIE) Task Force Chair, Dr. Pramod Dhakal, who is the OUN Initiative Coordinator and the Executive Director of Canada Foundation for Nepal (CFFN).

The OUN program is slated to begin at 10:00 am on the event day at the city’s Hotel Annapurna in Kantipath. More information will be updated, as it becomes available. The program includes interaction program for consultation with OUN stakeholders. The representatives of major political parties and parliamentarians (Constituent Assembly members) who are interested in education agenda of Nepal are expected to attend the program. The NRNA will be hosting a luncheon as part of the program for the OUN initiative, which is a flagship project of the organization.

The preparation is underway for a resolution to be jointly released by the Government of Nepal, NRNA and CFFN for moving the OUN initiative forward during the OUN event.

The NRN Day program will culminate in a gala celebration in a beautiful city of Pokhara on Monday, the 11th October.
