An Interactive SKI Discussion & Fund Raising Forum for “Open University of Nepal Initiative” Flagship Project
An interactive discussion & fund raising forum for the Open University of Nepal (OUN) was held on Sunday 11th December 2010 at the Nepalese Consulate Office in Sydney, Australia.
The interactive discussion & fund raising forum for OUN was organised by NRN Oceania Region and was participated by the Nepalese Ambassador for Australia HE Yogendra Dhakal, NRNA ICC Advisor Ms Indra Ban, the Nepalese Consul for NSW Australia Hon Deepak Khadka, Regional Co-ordinator of NRNA Oceania Region Mr Goba Katuwal, NRNA ICC Members Dr Raju Adhikari, Mr Shree Napit and member of the Policy Strategic Management Committee NRN Dr. Hom Moorti Pant, Vice President of NRN Australia Mr. Keshab Sapkota and Mrs. Bhoma Limbu, Secretary of NRNA-Australia Mr Bishnu Hamal, NRN NSW Coordinator Mr. Ganesh KC and Deputy NSW NRN Coordinator Mr. Shamim Anwar, media persons, business personalities, community members and leaders from of the various Nepalese community associations of Australia.
The program included a theme presentation on the overall progress on Open University Initiatives by the Chair of SKI Task Force and OUISC, Member, OUSC (Asia pacific) Dr Raju Adhikari followed by discussion and exchange of ideas on the wide range of topics viz; relevance to management, business plan, type of education model, program and contents, accessibility, technology hurdles, adaptation, quality control, recognitions, ownership, social constraints, target groups, reimbursement of funds if project fails etc from the floor. A suggestion to initiate SKI/OUI website link/blog on NRN-Australia website to solicit feedback from wider community and memo from the Ministry of Education to all the diplomatic missions to consolidate the support base globally was endorsed by the floor unanimously.
NRNA Oceania Region acknowledged the contributions of the members of Skill, Knowledge and Innovation (SKI) Exchange Task Force for their exemplary work on flagship project scheme for the long term prosperity of Nepal. As a RC of Oceania. I am pleased to inform you that there has been huge progress on SKI education flagship projects “Open University Initiatives” since the signing of MoU with Nepal Government in Nov 2010. The project is expected to benefit marginalised Nepalese population in the remote areas of Nepal.
The Oceania fund raising initiative received total pledge donation of A$ 15,539.00 NZ$1000.00 and NRs 111,111 from 37 donors. Details of donors’ list please refer to attached. (See attached donor list)
Every donation counts. As a donor, you are a visionary, a doer, and an advocate of such an initiative. You imagine a better future for fellow Nepalese and working toward to achieve such a goal. OU initiative has set a very ambitious objective to educate our marginalized population at the grass root level through distance education schemes and is being hailed as one of the landmark NRNA flagship projects. Your contribution is needed beyond the material to the moral support and through your contributions you will become one of the partners of the OUN project and be recognized appropriately in writing.

My sincere thanks goes to His Excellency Yogendra Dhakal, Advisor, OUSC, all the NRNA Ocarina members, ICC members for not only helping to organise this workshop but also for your generous donation, constructive suggestions and feedback. All questions raised or discussed in this workshop have been compiled and will be sent to OUSC for consideration while preparing the project plan.
