OUN at 4th National Conference of Nepalese in Canada

The Open University of Nepal Initiative will be featured in the 4th National Conference of Nepalese in Canada, to be held in Ottawa, Canada July 30 through Aug 1. Update on Open University of Nepal Initiative will be strongly respresented at the conference with a panel moderated by Dr. Kalidas Subedi of CFFN, as well as presentations by Dr. Pramod Dhakal, who had set up the OUN office in Kathmandu earlier this year, and Dr. Pamela Walsh, the Vice President of Athabasca University.

We are pleased to announce that the 4th National Conference of Nepalese in Canada is going to be held in the national capital city of Ottawa on July 30-August 1, 2011. This conference brings together representatives of the Nepalese people living throughout Canada, prominent Canadian personalities, and leading personalities of Nepalese Diaspora from around the world. Organized with a goal of understanding the aspirations of grassroots Non Resident Nepalese (NRNs), and building bridges among the Nepali Diaspora, the Government of Nepal as well as the Government of Canada, this conference will provide a significant networking forum to explore collaborative actions and common reflections.

The conference is hosted by community-based Nepalese Associations in the capital region of Canada. Previous conferences were held in Toronto, Calgary and Montreal, respectively. The Organizing Committee received best wishes for a successful conference from Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada and Hon. Jason Kenney, minister of citizenship, immigration and multiculturalism. Hon. Jim Karygiannis (MP Scarborough-Agincourt) representing Hon Bob Rae, interim Liberal leader); Nepalese Ambassador to Canada Dr. Bhoj Raj Ghimire, Deputy Mayor of city of Ottawa, Honorary Consul General of Nepal in Toronto Dr. Kunjar Sharma; NRNA-ICC Regional Coordinator Dr. Ambika Adhikari (from USA) have confirmed their attendance. Representatives of Hon. Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario and Hon Jason Kenney will also be in attendance. The Vice President and senior faculty of Athabasca University and several key persons involved in the Open University of Nepal initiative will either join the conference in person or participate via skype.

The event will be live telecasted by Torontonepal.com (www.torontonepal.com), NRN-Canada’s media partner for the conference. Journalists from OMNI Television will cover the event.
