Canada Foundation for Nepal has joined the Toronto Nepali Film Festival as a non-profit sponsor. The Festival, being held on March 17, 2012 from 1:30PM – 10:15 PM in Toronto, will showcase nine extraordinary Nepali films from Canada, Nepal and the US. The annual festival is organized with the goal of promoting Nepal’s rapidly emerging and vibrant independent filmmaking industry and adding a distinctive voice to Toronto’s cultural landscape. Toronto Nepali Film Festival (TNFF) is a not for profit organization based in Toronto, Ontario. Partnering with organizations in Canada, Nepal and beyond, TNFF intends to bring a festival of Nepali films in Toronto annually.
The festival will feature films that pertain to Nepal and Nepalis. Filmmakers of all race, nationality, creed and gender are eligible to participate in TNFF. The festival will showcase feature length films, documentaries, animation, experimental, shorts and other genres. The festival encourages diversity in the overall content of its programme. TNFF celebrates the diverse languages of Nepal by encouraging films based on indigenous languages such as Limbu, Maithali, Gurung and Newari. TNFF also encourages representation of women filmmakers and filmmakers of marginalized communities.
